Amanda Interviewed in Metro
April 28th, 2008 Filed Under Amanda Tapping News
The Metro have got an interview with Amanda up on their site. She talks mostly of Stargate and her time on that, there’s a brief mention of Sanctuary at the beginning, and Amanda tells us how she got into acting. Apparently it was down to, of all people, Lionel Blair!
My parents are British but we lived in Canada. Every year, Lionel Blair would come to Toronto and do a traditional British pantomime and we’d go each time. He’d haul children out of the audience and on to the stage for one song. I always wanted to be picked but never was. That’s where it all started from.

Get Your Very own Stargate
April 23rd, 2008 Filed Under Merchandise
You too can get your very own Stargate, from the good people at ThinkGeek.com.
Millions of years ago, the Ancients made a network of wormhole gates throughout the Milky Way and other galaxies. Having since scattered throughout the universe, the technology was lost to us on Terra until just recently, when not one but two massive Stargates were found on Earth. Using these great rings, we human beings have learned how to travel nearly instantaneously from planet to planet, across vast cosmic distances, often bringing trouble with us. We’re an obnoxious race, I guess.
Normally made of Naquahdah (and once unsuccessfully made of titanium) and 22 feet wide, our scientists have used glass and polystone to shrink the dimensions down to a mere 10 inches across. All you need is a Zero Point Module to power it, and you’re good to go. Convenient enough, now, to hang on your wall. When you’re not actively powering the gate to generate a wormhole, you can look at your reflection in the event-horizon.
Dual use toys are awesome!
This model has 39 glyphs and 9 chevrons, giving us nearly 2 trillion possible destinations! Be careful using the Stargate, though. We’re completely out of Dial Home Devices!
Features
- 10 inch diameter Stargate replica mirror
- Water-effect event-horizon insert included
- Hand painted
- Hook on the back to hang on your wall
- Officially licensed product from MGM and Quantum Mechanix

Stargate Slot Machines?
April 11th, 2008 Filed Under Misc News
It’s a weird one, but it appears the juggernaut that is the Stargate franchise is branching out yet again. To, erm, slot machines! Sure we’ve seen movie based slot machines, but am I the only one thinking that this is a very weird move. It’s not as if you got to casinos or game arcades looking for a Stargate slot machine. And I’m sure people won’t see a Stargate slot machine and think, I’ll watch that now!
A very strange move, but hey, Stargate is probably seen as a big sci-fi franchise, much like Star Trek.

An Audience with David Hewlett
April 8th, 2008 Filed Under David Hewlett News
I just got an email from the nice people at Wolf Events. This is exactly what it said, and I think there’s going to be a bit of a mad scramble for tickets for this one!
An audience with David Hewlett,
A one day event with Mr David Hewlett who potrays the character Rodney McKay in
the hit Sci Fi series Stargate Atlantis. The event will be held from 11-5 on Saturday 28th June in London. Location to be
confirmed.A rare opportunity to meet David Hewlett.
Ticket prices and details will be announced this week.
Unfortunately I’m not going to be in the country when this is, but I’ll keep you posted as to when tickets are going to go on sale. They’re going to go fast, as they did with the screening of A Dog’s Breakfast last year.

ITV4 Gets Sanctuary
April 8th, 2008 Filed Under Sanctuary News
Looks like Sanctuary has got a channel in the UK. ITV4 has bought the rights to the 13 episode run for the UK, reported by Digital Spy.
It’s set to air later this year on the channel. This is what ITV4’s channel editor, David Fewings had to say about the show, “Coming from the team behind Stargate and starring Amanda Tapping (Stargate), Sanctuary couldn’t have a better sci-fi pedigree. It’s absolutely at the cutting edge of the genre.”

Stargate: Universe a Go
April 8th, 2008 Filed Under Stargate: Universe
It looks like we have our third Stargate spin-off show. It’s still very much in the early stages of development but it’s getting a buzz in the Stargate fandom. Stargate: SG-1 was set on Earth, mostly. Stargate: Atlantis is set off-world and it looks like Stargate: Universe will be set on the go - on a ship originally built by the Ancients. This is what Brad Wright told GateWorld:
“The idea of ‘Stargate: Universe’ is that it is set on a ship that was part of an Ancient experiment that was set in motion probably millions of years ago — one that they never saw to fruition, but that we can,” Wright said. “They got busy with the whole ascension thing.”
By the sounds of things the PTB are waiting for Atlantis to finish before they start this new show, so does that mean Atlantis only has another year left in it?
Who knows. Personally I’m not game for another Stargate spin-off show. Atlantis has really been struggling, with the quality of the writing and direction, in terms of where the story arc is going. So if we have another Stargate spin-off, will that mean we’ll be getting a slightly more degraded in quality show? Is it just going to be another ground to bring in old Stargate actors? My hopes are low for the moment, but I’m prepared to change my mind. Hell, I did for Atlantis.

Greatest MacGyvers of Science Fiction
April 8th, 2008 Filed Under Misc News
A nice fun article from io9 which gives a list of science fiction’s greatest MacGyver’s. I’ve picked this one out not just because of my love of MacGyver but they do mention something else Stargate! It’s Stargate: Atlantis and they’ve picked out Rodney McKay as one of the greatest MacGyver’s of science fiction. Personally I would have gone for Sam Carter, but hey!
Rodney McKay famously asks “What am I, MacGyver?” in this spin-off from the Richard Dean Anderson-starring Stargate SG1. But he actually does work technological marvels at regular intervals, making sense of Ancient technology. He built an atomic bomb for his sixth-grade science project. Not to mention, in “Condemned,” he totally one-ups Scotty when he says it’ll take two days to cobble together a new “Dial-Home Device” from secondary systems… and then downgrades that estimate to ten minutes in a pinch.
