Stargate: Universe a Go

It looks like we have our third Stargate spin-off show. It’s still very much in the early stages of development but it’s getting a buzz in the Stargate fandom. Stargate: SG-1 was set on Earth, mostly. Stargate: Atlantis is set off-world and it looks like Stargate: Universe will be set on the go - on a ship originally built by the Ancients. This is what Brad Wright told GateWorld:

“The idea of ‘Stargate: Universe’ is that it is set on a ship that was part of an Ancient experiment that was set in motion probably millions of years ago — one that they never saw to fruition, but that we can,” Wright said. “They got busy with the whole ascension thing.”

By the sounds of things the PTB are waiting for Atlantis to finish before they start this new show, so does that mean Atlantis only has another year left in it?

Who knows. Personally I’m not game for another Stargate spin-off show. Atlantis has really been struggling, with the quality of the writing and direction, in terms of where the story arc is going. So if we have another Stargate spin-off, will that mean we’ll be getting a slightly more degraded in quality show? Is it just going to be another ground to bring in old Stargate actors? My hopes are low for the moment, but I’m prepared to change my mind. Hell, I did for Atlantis.

I can’t wait for the new spin off. The story must go on and new/exciting stories will come along with the ride.

Honestly, I’d rather they continued with Atlantis: to me it just seems to be getting better and better and I think it has great potential. At first I was really excited about SG: U but now I know it’ll be set on a ship I’m not so sure. I’m sure it will be good (how could it not with the Stargate writers!), but all the same the whole “sci-fi show set on a ship” thing has been done SO many times! But I guess we’ll just have to wait and see!
